ANTARCTICA:
Animals and plants
Adelie
When these penguins want to find their mate, the male drops a pebble at the feet of his intended mate. They then fight, and if the female is interested, they'll generally stop fighting after a short period of time. These pengins also make their nests from pebbles and rocks.
PENGUINS
Chinstrap
This penguin gets it's name from the narrow black band under it's chin. They can grow up to 70cm tall. They have a white feather stomach body and back feathers from ear to ear. Their diet is mainly krill, and like most penguins, their main predators are Leopard seals.
Emperor
Being the biggest penguin species, this fascinating creature can grow up to 120cm tall and weigh up to 45 kg. They are also the only penguins that reproduce during the harsh weather of Winter in Antarctica. The male keeps the egg warm by holding it under his feet for about 2 months!

Royal
These are one type of the 'crested' penguin group. Crested penguins are distinguished by the yellow crest on their heads. These penguins also have a white chin, and as with many animals the males are larger than the females.
King
These are the second largest penguin species, standing from 85-95cm tall. A characteristic of these penguins is a patch of golden feathers on their neck. And as with most penguin species, their biggest perdators are Leopard seals and Killer Whales.
Gentoo
These penguins are a fairly medium size, standing from 75 - 90cm tall. The females are mostly smaller than the males. A feature that makes these penguins distictive is their bright orange bill.

Rockhopper
These penguins are relatively small, and only stand about 40-50cm tall. They only weigh from 2 -3.5kg and are found on Subantarctic islands.
